So in the midst of the quarantine many of you like myself have had your share of binge watching on one or more of our beloved streaming platforms. So as I scrolled through the many options of movies I’ve yet to see and some of the classics that stand the test of time I notice that my daughter is watching Frozen for the 100th time with so much joy in her laugh as if she had never seen it before and it made me think what are my top 5 movies that I can watch over and over and still find enjoyment as if it were the first time. So here they go in no particular order…
5. Waiting To Exhale… first and foremost it’s a pure classic of the lives of 4 different but extremely similar women. Not to mention the performance that Angela Basset gave as Bernadine during the iconic closet/torching of the car scene. Amazing!!!
4. Gone Girl… ok now it was already a great book.... but the movie... geez... now granted it’s a lengthy movie (I mean like titanic long...lol) but come on the plot twist towards the end makes you think about faking you own disappearance due to the fact that it was so perfectly planned and executed.
3. Office Space… The first time I had the pleasure of watching this movie was for school during a management course. When I say its is one of the funniest movies about the corporate world I’ve ever seen. Plus it gave us the iconic “Somebody’s got the case of the Monday’s.” Lol.
2. Kill Bill Vol. 1… Now I went with the first one while giving an honorable mention to Kill Bill Vol. 2 because they go hand and hand but if I have to chose one it will always be the first on and here is why… The crazy 88 fight scene, The Pussy Wagon, and of course the anime background story of O-Ren Ishii. Now the second one is great because she meets up with bill, find out her daughter was still alive, survives getting buried alive and pokes the eye out of her rival Elle. They are both amazing okay.
1.The Wood… now this one was extremely hard because there are so many great movies that I have to give and an honorable mention to like; Boyz in the Hood, Menace to Society, Friday, Love and Basketball, Baby Boy, Set it Off, Training Day, Brown Sugar, House Party 1 and 2 because after that it loses its value and I love them to the moon and back and of course The Best Man. Most of which were filmed in my wonderful city LA. The wood is nostalgic for me it takes me back to a happy place growing up in LA, getting into trouble with my friends, hanging out at the parks, going to parties, hitting up the store for some gum or tic tacs only to end up in a car with one of the older kids from the neighborhood lol, eating at our favorite spots and then growing up but still trying to hold on to the people that mattered the most… we all have a little dance fever in us and have that friend who turned into more… and to macking and hanging for life…
So there you have it my “Top 5”… plus tax lol and of course it’s a short list and there are many more movies out there that I can watch forever on repeat. It really depends on the mood and genre. So what are your Top 5’s?
